James Slack

WYANDOTTE, Mich. — James Edward Slack, 53, died Wednesday, May 9, at home.
He was born in Lambertville. He owned River’s Edge Gallery and exhibited in many shows and galleries throughout Michigan. Mr. Slack received the Downriver Achievement Award in 1999 and attended art school in Philadelphia.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Slack is survived by his wife, Patricia; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Jason Ray of Lincoln Park; a sister, Susan Darrah of Lambertville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Joyce Slack of Sergeantsville, John and Illeana Slack of Hollywood, Fla., and Charles and Jill Slack of Lambertville; and other relatives.
The funeral will be private. A memorial service will be at a later date.

James Kerr

STOCKTON — James M. Kerr, 90, died Thursday, May 10, at home.
Born in New Hope, he was raised in Lambertville and lived in Stockton 57 years.
He was a retired boiler engineer from Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township.
He was a member of Stockton Wesleyan Church.
Son of the late David and Bessie Coffee Kerr, he is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Parks Kerr; three daughters and a son-in-law, Doris and Ed Vinarski of Lambertville, Evelyn Suozzo of Stockton, and Jeanne Whitehead of Holland, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Monday at Garefino Funeral Home, Lambertville. Burial was in Sandy Ridge Cemetery.

Ellen Wilson

WEST AMWELL — Ellen M. Lane Wilson, 82, of West Amwell died Saturday, May 12, at the Briarleaf Care Center, Doylestown, Pa.
Born in Trenton, she came to the Lambertville-West Amwell area in 1940. She was a driver of special education students for South Hunterdon Regional High School for five years before retiring 10 years ago. Earlier, she was a driver for Pioneer on Wheels in Raritan Township for 10 years.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lambertville and its former organist. She was a past member of the West Amwell Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
Widow of John W. Wilson and daughter of the late Arthur and Olive Phillips Lane, she is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, John Arthur and Carol B. Wilson, Robert L. and Linda E. Wilson and Stephen R. Wilson, all of West Amwell and Larry P. and Kathy Wilson of Mainsburg, Pa.; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert Lane of Ewing Township and Richard and Gloria Lane of Hamilton Township.
The funeral will be held today (May 17) at 11 a.m. at the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, Lambertville. The Rev. Raymond C. Force of the church will officiate. Interment will follow at Holcombe-Riverview Cemetery, Delaware Township.

Helen Webb

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. — Helen May Drake Webb, 83, of Lenoir City, Tenn., former of Lambertville, died Thursday, May 10, at home.
Born in Trenton, she was a longtime resident of Lambertville before moving to Tennessee many years ago.
She worked at Durable Stainless Steel and Belmont Forwarders, both in Lambertville.
She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Lambertville.
She was the daughter of the late John and Annie E. Green Drake and sister of the late Dorothy Drake Curtis, Leroy Drake, Clarence Drake and Russell Drake.
Surviving are a sister, Blanche Drake Bennett of Sebastian, Fla.; a niece, Ann Anderson of Sebastian; a nephew, Larry Drake of Lenoir City; and several other nieces.
Graveside services were held Monday at Highland Cemetery, Hopewell.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, Lambertville.

Joseph Vitale

STOCKTON — Joseph C. Vitale, 77, of Stockton died Sunday, May 13, at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township.
Born in Camden, Mr. Vitale came to Lambertville as a child. He had been a Stockton resident for 38 years.
Mr. Vitale worked at Joseph A. Finkle and Sons Hardware in Lambertville for 40 years before retiring 10 years ago.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe with the Army Medical Corps.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, all in Lambertville.
Widower of Helen Theresa Pescatore Vitale, father of the late Kathleen T. Vitale and son of the late Michael and Anna Panico Vitale, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Maryann and Lawrence Gray of Stockton; a son, Joseph G. Vitale of New York City; his grandchildren, Lauren and Amy Gray of Stockton; and two sisters, Carmella "Mildred" Rock of Lambertville and Elizabeth Cannulli of Orlando, Fla.
A funeral mass will be held tomorrow (May 18) at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow morning from 9 a.m. until departure for the church.

Florence Embley

EWING — Florence J. Embley, 79, died Saturday, May 12, at home.
Born in Trenton, she lived in Ewing since 1945.
Mrs. Embley was a past president of the Trenton-Ewing Chapter of Deborah Foundation.
She retired from Curtis Bowling Lanes, Ewing, and previously worked at Hamilton Bowling Lanes.
She is survived by her husband, William R. Embley; a daughter, Nancy L. Austin of Ewing; a son, William R. Embley of Stockton; her stepmother, Anna Sudol of Hamilton; two sisters, Genevieve Black of Hamilton and Ceil Sudol of Pensacola, Fla.; a brother, Martin Sudol of Lawrence; a stepsister, Frances Wisniski of Trenton; a stepbrother, John Hudnicki of Ewing; five grandchildren, Jacquelyn Keys, Hal A. Austin, Staff Sgt. William M. Levie, and Brett and Jessie Embley; six great-grandchildren, Joseph Bock Jr., Amanda and William Levie, Robert and Samantha Keys and Kenneth Austin; and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today (May 17) at Saul Memorial Home, Trenton. Private burial will be in Ewing Church Cemetery.

George Geis

MANCHESTER — George A. Geis, 90, died Friday, May 11, at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.
Born in Trenton, he lived in Lawrence and Yardley, Pa., before moving to Manchester in 1981.
Mr. Geis retired in 1966 as vice president of Consumers Oil Corp., Trenton, after 42 years.
Mr. Geis was past president of New Jersey Fuel Merchants Association and previously was vice president, treasurer, central region vice president and chairman of the Gasoline Jobbers Division and was NOJC director.
He was a former officer of the Delaware Petroleum Co., Trenton, and director of Phoenix Terminals, Trenton.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Geis was past president of the Lions Club, Lawrenceville, and a member of the Lawrence American Legion and the Knights of Columbus of Leisure Village, West Manchester. He was a member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Lakehurst, and its Holy Name Society.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Helen Blasius Geis; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert A. and Kim Geis of Ringoes and Thomas A. and Linda Geis of Port Charlotte, Fla.; three grandchildren, Daniel and his wife, Penny, and Lee and Joseph; and two great-granddaughters, Danielle and Kylie.
A mass was held Wednesday at the church. Entombment was at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, Manchester.
