directions

  • Set your oven to 450.
  • Dump your can of baked beans (we use Bush's vegetarian) into a casserole dish. (We use a medium sized glass bowlish looking -- thing). Set the dish aside.
  • Cut up your hotdogs into bite sized pieces and throw those into your casserole dish and mix until dogs are well coated with baked bean sauce.
  • Cover the bean and dog mixture with tatertots. We usually use a couple handfuls. Use as many as you'd like. Just make sure to cover the mixture completely.
  • Place the casserole dish in the oven for 1/2 an hour or until tater tots are golden brown. When Redneck Casserole is all cooked up, turn off the oven and sprinkle the top with cheese.
  • Redneck Casserole is completely done when cheese is melted and you just can't take it anymore -- dig in! (You can mix pretty much anything with this dish. Sour cream, ketchup, mustard, hot sauce, etc.).

Had a hankering for franks n' beans so when I saw this recipe and photos, went right to the grocery store for the fixings. Used 2 cans Bush's bourbon & brown sugar baked beans (with added ketchup and mustard) in 13x9 baking dish, pkg of 7 Hebrew National beef franks, and shredded cheddar-jack. As suggested in some of the reviews, I pre-baked the tater tots for extra crispiness. Turned out yummy! Not exactly healthy, but every now and then you just gotta have some ooey-gooey comfort food. Will make again, it's a keeper and you can do endless variations.

Made it for Christmas dinner and it was well received by adults and kids alike. Nothing beats fancy beanie weenie for comfort food. :) Will definitely make again. Most of it was gone which is saying something with as much food as was brought.

i loved it, my wife thought it was ok -- i used vegi dogs instead of hot dogs and vegetarian baked beans. the second time i added some chili and onions since my wife likes chili dogs and she liked it much better

Absolutely love this!! Found a happy twist during the pandemic and couldn’t find tater tots, we now top with potatoes O’Brien!! Hash browns with onions and peppers!!! Omg!! So much better as I’m not a big fan of tater tots!!

Everyone in my house loved this. A great substitute for having no buns. Instead of regular hot dogs I used chili cheese dogs, beans I used the BandM bacon and onion, I then squirt on some siracha all over. Instead of tots I ended up using crispy crowns. Sprinkled on some salt, pepper, peprika, and topped it off with shredded cheese. Sooooo yummy!!

My entire family loves this easy recipe! I've made it with both baked beans and pork and beans, and it's great either way. I usually add a chopped onion to the mix as well, and I also have used french fries instead of tater tots (one family member hates tater tots), and it's great that way too. I usually cook the fries/tots ahead to make them crispier and microwave the beans and dogs to speed up the process, just using the oven as a last step to melt the cheese. I also usually use Turkey dogs as I prefer them to regular hot dogs. All in all, great idea that is perfect for a quick and cheap dinner!

love how easy and good this recipe is! hubby isnt a big fan of baked beans unfortunately, so i used chili instead. i doubled the recipe using 4-15 ounce cans of chili, 12 hotdogs and a whole bag of tator tots. for those of you using chili instead i suggest using shili with beans, i used half with and half without and it was very runny to dish up. tasted good but it didnt look as pretty as it would have i think. thanks for sharing this recipe!

No, it's not "haute cuisine," but I threw this together for a potluck in 10 minutes tops and it was good, so that merits 5 stars from me! I put it in the oven and by the time I was ready, so was dinner. I doubled the recipe and baked both dishes at the same time, and had dinner for my husband too, with leftovers for lunch the next day. I had no time to experiment so made it as is. Next time I'd doctor it up like I do my own baked beans, and would use sausage instead of hot dogs. This is a very versatile recipe. As is it was good, though a bit bland. Everyone liked it, and it was just as good reheated for lunch the next day. This is perfect for a lightning fast weekday dinner.

This casserole has a lot of potential and I love the title. The baked beans were bland to my family and they said that they didn't want it again but when I mentioned using chili instead of the baked beans, they thought this was a great idea. Will let you know how the chili goes. Should be like a chili dog with tots!

Well let's see. I live in a little town called Sandy in northern Oregon. As a coinsidence I work at a little store called Safeway....alright alright, it's not little...actually, it's probably the biggest franchise IN this town next to Fredmyer. Haha...ha. Ehem. I work in the deli...dun dun dun, as a deli clerk. Besides work and this town being small, some of the things I enjoy doing in my free time is looking up random recipes and cooking with whatever ingredients I have...spontaniousity, if there is such a word, would sum me up completely. My dream is to become an archeologist, or go to school for it at least. One of these days I will have the funding. I guess last but not least...well...let's just leave it at that for now. ^_^
