She was born Sept. 21, 1931, in Ross County, Ohio, to the late Daniel Sr. and Erma Newell Helsel. She was retired from the composing room of the Times Recorder. She was a member of the Coburn United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order Eagles Auxiliary and Moose Lodge Auxiliary.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra L. Smith of Sarasota, a sister, Catherine Ferguson of Zanesville; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilston Gillogly, who died in 1952; her second husband, Malcolm H. Fulks, who died in 1967; two brothers, Daniel and Joseph Helsel, and a granddaughter, Sharon Murphy. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

"Junior" Ashton, 78, of Fair Avenue in Beverly, died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at his home. Born July 22, 1923, in Morgan County 1 to the late Henry W. and Orena Grace Allen Ashton, he was a graduate of Reinersville High School and served the U.S. Army in World War IL.

He was a retired rural mail carrier in McConnelsville and later he and his wife, Eula Morrison Ashton, owned and operated Ashton's Dairy Haven for 11 years. He was also a member of the Neelysville Church of Christ where he had been an elder for many years. He is survived by his wife, whom he married Jan. 4, 1948; a daughter, Judy (Larry) Clear of Knobnoster, a son, Robert (Martha) Ashton of Winterhaven, four grandchildren, David (Deneise) Clear of Warrensburg, Sheri, Deanna and Nicholas Clear, all of Knobnoster, a great-grandson, Clay Clear of Warrensburg, two step granddaughters; a step grandson; and a step greatdaughter. Ashton was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dana Ashton; and two brothers, Allen and Dean Ashton.

Born Feb. 22, 1923, in Belle Valley to the late Clark and Jessie Danford Bryan, Marks was a member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Daniel "Dan" (Linda) Marks of Nashport; granddaughter, Eric Marks of Columbus; brother Cash (Margaret) Bryan of Zanesville; sister-in-law, Josephine Swiger of Akron; and several nieces and nephews.

Born June 4, 1917, in Union Township, Morgan County, to the late Oscar and Dora Love Janes, he worked for Central Ohio Coal Co. for three years before starting his own business, Bob Janes Trucking and Excavating.

he retired in 1999 after 62 years. Janes also served three terms as a Morgan County Commissioner (1971-75, 77-81 and 85-89), was on the MRDD Board and was a Democratic Central Committee man in the county. He was Morgan County Democrat of the Year in 1997 and was an avid bowler and a baseball fan. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of Ark Springs Baptist Church, and a former member of Somerset United Methodist Church.

She was also a former member of Timber Run Grange, Pomona Grange and was a 50-year member of Eastern Star. He was retired from Metalbestso in Logan, operated coal mines with his brothers, a U.S. Army veteran and member of Masonic Lodge 484 New Straitsville. Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Alice M.
